Weight Gain, Thyroxine Dosage Reduced, Mirena Coil Fitted. Suggestions?

hi I have been taking thyroxine for a long time it was reduced to 125 about four months ago I am gradually putting on weight and am going to the gym and walking more than usual wondered if I should get the levels checked again or is there any other tests I can have. Am 58 and have the murina coillfitted and was told I may put on weight with that.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
You are known case of Hypothyroidism and taking Thyroxine regularly and recently dose is reduced, I am sure must have been done after your Thyroid function reports.
Weight gain can occur after reducing dose of Thyroxine but reduction of dose is necessary if Free T3 and Free T4 level are more than desirable.
You can recheck thyroid function after some time, if you have not tested for blood sugar level they must be checked Fasting and postprandial blood sugar level.
In the meantime continue low calories healthy balanced diet and regular physical exercise.

It is not clear about Mirena coil if you are in reproductive age (58?)there should not be any problem because of this coil. It is is due to reduction in anxiety some women gain weight.
If your TSH rises then your doctor may increase the dose of Thyroxine again.
