Unable To Draw Blood Samples. Taking Lyrica For Pain After Mastectomy. Does Lyrica Cause Thickening Of Blood?

My wife is on lyrica just come off 150mg in morning and night and is now on 150 only at night because of dizziness and other side effects. She is on Lyrica because of pain associated with a mastectomy she had nine years ago and does not go away. Thee pain still persists although lyrica does get it down for a while. The doctor has ordered blood tests and this morning I took her to have this done at a pathology but the nurse could not get blood to come out eventhough she tried many places. She thus sent us to another branch in their group and they had similar trouble there also and she had to put her hands in warm water for awhile therefore blood could be drawn out with a seringe from a place in her hand. We thought we had achieved the task and came home but the (second) pathology just phoned us and said that the blood they took had colagulated and wants us to go back again tomorrow therefore. Is this normal when on lyrica? Does Lyrica thicken the blood? What can we do until we see the doctor after a successful test? (if one is possible) Thank You, Graeme Reid

Hello,
LYRICA doesn't thicken the blood. The lab people couldn't take the sample because of non visibility or very thinly visible veins, which happens in people who have lot of subcutaneous fat.
The blood sample coagulated because either the bottle used for collecting the sample didn't have anticoagulant in it or the quantity of anti coagulant might have been inadequate.
Don't read anything in to it.It is absolutely normal and happens routinely.
Thanks
