Took Rabipur Injection For Grade 3 Injury Immediately After Dog Bite Followed By Two KanRAB Injection. Other Injections Required?

Hello Doctor,

I have a dog-bite (street dog, without provoking) three days before. Doctor mentioned the injury is grade-3. I took rebipur injection after 20 mins of the bite. Next, i took KamRAB (Rabies immune globullin) 2ml (300 IU, where my weight is 64Kg) injection after 20 hours. Only one injection was available. Today on day three i took the second dosage. However, the doctor is recommending me to take another three injections of KanRAB on fourth day. Please suggest me what to do.

Hi,

Rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) should be given for all category III exposures. Actual dosing for RIG is 20 IU/Kg. So you should have taken 1200 IU. As much as possible of the recommended dose should be infiltrated around the wounds if anatomically feasible. The remainder should be administered intramuscularly (into gluteal region) in a single dose and followed by a complete course of vaccine.

You should take the rest of RIG as soon as possible.
