Took Plan B Pill. Had My Regular Period. Started With Light Period, Now Passing Clots, Heavy Bleeding. Treatment?

I took plan B emergency contraceptive over 3 weeks ago. One week later, I had my regular menstrual period, then another week later I started a 2nd period. This bleeding was very light at first, more like spotting, but 3 days ago became very heavy. 2 days ago I passed a clot about the size of an orange, and have since been passing 3-4 golf ball sized clots. I have to change my feminine pad every 30 mins. The bleeding is heavier in the evening through to night time and just moderate-average through out the day.

Hi and thanks for the query,

it might be very necessary to get a reevaluation. Continues bleeding could lead to severe anemia. It might necessary to be sure that this bleeding is purely associated to the contraceptive pill and that there is no other underlying condition.

I still suggest it might necessary may be to do a pregnancy test, preferably through B HCG measures to exclude the probability of a pregnancy that had not been diagnosed. An abdominal ultrasound could also be very useful in this case to ascertain the nature and contents of the uterus.

Consult your gynecologist or emergency room for urgent and appropriate care.
Thanks and best regards,

Bain LE, MD.
