Toddler With Swollen Stomach And Hard Stools, Prescribed Lactulose. Solution?

Hi My 10 month old has a swollen stomach and has had this on and off. She poos every day but often has hard stools . Once or twice when they have been runny (when teething ), it s like her stomach shrinks again and some undigested food usually comes out with this. Could it be wind or due to the fact that she is partially constipated? My doc has pescribed lactulose but not sure whether to use it or not Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic,
Your child seems to have constipation.
Usually with constipation there will be accumulation of gas leading to flatulence and swollen stomach.
Give plenty of oral fluids and water.
Give mashed vegetables, fruits as they contain dietary fiber and it will make stool soft and easy for defecation.
You can give lactulose as prescribed by your doctor during constipation.
I advise you to go for throid testing after consulting your Pediatrician as it will present with bloating stomach and constipation.
