Thyroid disorders are many times more common in women than men. Your friend appears to be in sub-clinical hypothyroidism (T3 & T4 levels are low , but within the normal range, while TSH levels are high).

Yes , it is treatable however there are many questons to be answered:

1. Is there an Iodine deficiency in her diet?

2. Has there been any episode of thyroiditis?

3. Has she had an overdose of Iodine?

4. Has she been eating a goitrogenic diet?

5. Has she inherited hypothyroidism?

6. Does she require treatment with thyroxine or only observation with supportive medication?
