Throbbing pain after dance injury above ankle. Swelling, redness, bruising persist. Sprain/ fracture possible?

I am having throbbing pain after a dance injury on the inner portion of my right foot between the arch and the ankle. The accident happened late last night but the pain has gradually intensified over 24 hours. Redness and bruising has also gradually increased and spread. Minimal swelling. I want to know if this sounds more like a break or a sprain? Being a dancer, I have broken my 4th and 5th metetarsels of both feet and I have severely sprained my left ankle. This is a new injury and it feels different than my previous injuries. Thank you

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Based on the description of symptoms, you could have suffered a sprain of ankle.

An xray of the injured area is essential to rule out any bony injury.

The primary management of a sprained ankle is as follows -
* Protection to the ankle in the form of a splint or boot
* Rest to the injured area and avoid bearing weight on the leg
* Elevation of the foot end
* Elastic compression bandage around the swollen area
* Ice packing once in every 2 hours to alleviate the pain
* analgesic medications as needed

If your symptoms are still persisting , consult an orthopedic surgeon for further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day

It might be soft tissue injury, ligament injury or fracture.
Without X-ray, it is difficult to differentiate a fracture from others. I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance.
In the interim, apply ice packs to the affected area,anti-inflammatory drug like motrin to reduce pain and inflammation. Avoid putting weight and rest well.
Hope this helps.

Okay so I m 15 years old, 5 foot 2 , and weigh about 145lbs. I have a lot of medical history . I ve pulled my groin on my left leg twice, had three concussions, sprained and fractured my left ankle and just that s all in one softball season. But now I have this throbing pain on the outside of my left leg, below my knee , and the pain radiates up to my hip and lower back. And when I walk the back of my ankle hurts. I ve had a lot of physical activity latley, going from 4 hours of summer gym to 4 hours of softball every night for the past week. Could this be why my leg/ankle is in so much pain? And what could possibly be wrong with my leg?

I fell of my bike and landed on my arm . Although the fall didn t hurt, after a while my arm (underneath my elbow behind my back arm) began to be painful and stiffen. Its now been a couple of hours and I ve had some range of motion decrease and stiffen. I ve iced it on and off for an hour and it hurt when I lifted my arm. And it clicks a bit when I do lift it. Yet there is no swelling or no bruising. Is there a possibility I have a small fracture , or could it just be a bad sprain?

Hi, I recently fell forward skateboarding and took a hard fall catching it with my left palm. It hurt pretty bad for the rest of the day but I shrugged it off, with little swelling and no bruising. It s now the next day and I feel sharp pains when extending, bending, and rotating my arm. The pain is mostly on the upper part of my forearm on the thumb side, near the elbow. Is it a sprain? Or a possible fracture?

Apart from my Ankle ligament injury/tearing I didn t had any health issues of any kind. While playing cricket my right ankle injury took place. Doctor informed me that operation was required 1. Dislocation 2. Fracture(Plate is used) 3. Ligament injury It s almost 50 days now. I have got plaster on my legs around the ankle. My doctor informed me that plaster will remain for next 1 more month ( total 3 months ) What precautions should I take for full recovery and have better normal life for rest of my life.
