Taking Methotrexate Tablets For Rheumatoid Arthritis And Psoriasis. Is There A Problem With Alcohol Intake?
I am on methotrexate tablets (20mg per week) and have been for approx. 6 months. I take them for rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. I give blood samples every month. I will be seeing my consultant again in Sept 2013. I am concerned with comment " alcohol should be avoided during methotrexate therapy". I do have alcohol but do keep within guidelines. I have been having alcohol whilst taking the tablets and have not had any side effects. What effect will this have - does the alcohol cancel out the benefit of the tablets. I was told that I am OK having alcohol in moderation. I await your comments.
as the main side effects of methotrexate are on the liver and so also of alcohol, it is a good idea to keep alcohol in moderation to avoid any side effects of methotrexate. thats about it, there is no difference on the efficacy of methotrexate.
