Taking Eptoin For Neurocysticercosis. Diagnosed With TB. Started AKT4. Can The Drugs Be Taken Together?

My mother has been taking eptoin 300mg for the past 1.5 yrs for neurocysticercosis. She was diagnosed to have Tb and has been started on AKT 4 since last Wednesday. Will there be any interaction between these drugs and how should the dosage of Eptoin be adjusted. She is also complaining of itching after taking AKT 4. What should she take for this?

Hello,
Two drugs which are part of AKT4 need to be considered, that is Isoniazid and Rifampicin.Isoniazid increases the level of eptoin in the blood.Eptoin reduces the level of Rifampicin in blood. As a result there may be submaximal effect of both AKT4 and Eptoin. So,review of the drugs may be required with the treating doctors.
Itching can occur due to Rifampicin among the AKT4 drugs in particular.Antihistamine may be taken for this. But again review, of the choice of anti-epileptic and anti -Tb drugs is advisable.
Hope it was helpful.
