Swollen Ear On Baby,please Suggest

My 10 month old had an awful night with lots of screaming. We checked his temp and it was 39.3. I gave Neurofen and Anbesol on the gum as he has been teething . This morning he woke up with a swollen ear . It is especially red and swollen behind the ear, to the extent that the ear is sticking out twice the norm. He still has a temp but it goes down with painkillers . He is grizzly in between but is mainly his cheery self...with elf ear. Should I try to get an emergency appointment for him ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
siConsidering the symptoms you have mentioned probably your kid has otitis ( a kind of ear infection common in the kids). Though the infection settles down with antibiotics it is beetter to have the ear examined by a pediatrician or ENT surgeon so that the complications can be avoided. Till you get an appointment, give him antibiotics such as Syp. Augmentin (225mg/5ml) 3ml thrice daily and analgesic Syp. Combiflam 2.5ml thrice daily. PS: the drug dosages are for approx 10kg baby
