Swelling, Purple Nail After Slamming Thumb In Car Door. Taking Ibuprofen, Icing It. Medication?

I went to the er bc I slammed my thumb in a car door. It is not broken. The door mainly closed on my cuticle. The nail at first was a little purple now half the nail is purple and its continues to swell. It is now purple at the cuticle and along the sides of the nail. I feel it's getting worse. I'm icing it and taking ibuprofen ever 4-5 hours. The doc gave me something stronger but I can only take it at night bc it makes me sleepy. Is it normal for it to online to worsen? Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello

Thanks for writing to Healthcare magic,

I have studied your case,

There is hematoma collection due to injury below nail bed.
Take care that it dont get infected.
If pain is intense you can drain it from your treating doctor or otherwise wait till resolution occurs ,it may take 3 weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
