Swelling On Feet, Legs. Prescribed Seralto. History Of Diabetes, Stroke, Hip Replacement. Any Side Effects For Seralto?

My 80 year old cousin was prescribed seralto and was told it is a clot buster. His history includes diabetes, several strokes, knee replacements in both legs, and most recently a partial hip replacement. He has problems with swelling of the feet and legs because he is sitting most of the day. I don't know anything about this drug and am concerned about side affects. Can you please help. Thank you. ---Brenda

Hello,
XARELTO ( RIVAROXABAN ) is an anti coagulant and is generally prescribed after total hip replacement or knee replacement to prevent blood clots from taking place.
Reported side effects are...
Risk of unexpected bruising and bleeding.
Increase in liver enzymes
Anemia
Nausea
Stiffness of joints.
Whenever patient is put on anti coagulants like XARELTO,he is always monitored on regular basis by the doctor to look for any sign of anemia, increase in liver enzymes, regular monitoring of INR etc.
Don't worry ,have trust in your doctor and abide by his instructions and consult him immediately, whenever you find these side effcts.
Thanks
