Swelling And Bruising In Ankle, Painful Feet. No Injury. What Are The Symptoms For?

About a month ago I noticed my left inner ankle was swollen. It became painful a day or so later and then began bruising. I did not injure it and have no explanation for how this occurred. It is still swollen, you can't see the bone on the inside of my ankle, and it is pretty bruised and very painful. A couple of days ago my right inner ankle started doing the same thing, exact same symptoms and no injury. Any ideas what this could be?? The bruise goes along my instep and the pain starts at the round bone on my inner ankle and down the instep on both feet.

Hello,

It seems to be Polyarthritis of the ankle joints(Inflammation of the joint spaces).
The not common cases are viral infection and stress to the joint structures.
Consult your doctor for X ray of the ankles and blood Test like ESR, C reactive proteins.
Rest and analgesic may be advised for relief of the pain and swelling.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hi,

After going through the entire description, I am of the opinion that the cause for your pain is sprain.

Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation (PRICE).
Protection, elastic wrap or ankle tape, or a brace.
Avoid Heat, Alcohol, Running (or other exercise), and Massage (HARM) in the first 72 hours after the injury.
Analgesia if required.
Do not immobilise the joint. Begin flexibility (range of motion) exercises as soon as they can be tolerated without excessive pain.

I do hope that you have found something helpful and Informative.
