HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The infection would cause increases in his blood sugar levels.

The treatment of his diabetes would depend on what medications he is currently using and the doses.
If they are not optimised and then the doses can be increased unless he is experiencing side effects.
If he does not have a good response to his oral medication, he may need to start insulin to bring the blood sugars under control.

I hope this helps
