Suggest Treatment For Vaginal Bleeding During Intercourse

Hi, for the last 3 months I have been bleeding during intercourse way before and days after my period. It isn't because of lack of "moisture" or tears, and I have also been experiencing some sensitivity during intercourse, and this does not happen all the time. And before you say it, I already have an appointment, just was curious in the mean time.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) Mild to moderate bleeding during or after intercourse may be due to rough sex, blunt trauma, vaginal infection or dryness (lack of lubrication), endometriosis, uterine or cervical polyp etc. Most of time, this type of bleeding stops automatically within 3-5 days.

2) Use proper lubrication during sex and maintain genital hygiene. Medicine like Tranexamic acid can be taken for 3 days to arrest bleeding temporarily. In your case, progesterone pill may be required (as bleeding during sex for last 3 months) if uterine pathology is detected.

3) Lastly, I suggest you to consult with gynecologist if bleeding continues more than 1 week. One ultrasound scan is advisable to detect uterine or cervical pathology (if any). Do one pap smear test also. Maintain genital hygiene. Good luck.
