Hi I visited my doctor on Friday with one swollen tonsil and a few tiny spots of pus on the same side. Lots of pain!! She diagnosed tonsilitus and gave me antibiotics but not penicilin. Since taking them the pain has improved but the swelling has not and there is not a lot of pus. Both tonsils are covered completley no longer spots. A big patch on each. Does this mean the antibiotics are not working? Should I return to the doctors Monday?
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.
Your symptoms seem to be related to tonsillitis which is an infection of the tonsils. If you continue having a swelling of the tonsils and white patches on it,probably the antibiotic was not effective. You may need another antibiotic. Meanwhile,I suggest using anti inflammatory medications such as Acetaminophen to relieve the inflammation. I also recommend to gargle with salty water.
Hope my answer was helpful.
