Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain Due To Arthritic Knees

Hi. I am a 42 year old female with arthritic knees, especially the right knee. I have had 3 arthroscopic surgeries on my knee, my last one being 15 years ago. Over the past 6 months, I have had my knees lock up on me, scrape and become dislocated. I went to my family physician and he wanted me to have Euflexxa shots done after a shot of cortizone (which did not help). He refused to do an MRI, which I thought was odd. My insurance company denied the Euflexxa and now I am just stuck with extreme pain in my knees. My left one just started grinding last week, my guess is because of compensating, and I can barely walk up and down my stairs, let alone exercise. In all of this, I have gained 40 lbs due to lack of activity because of the pain. Where do I go or even begin to fix this?

Ayurveda Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Because there are varied symptoms associated with knee arthritis, the following is my opinion:
1. One has to rule out other causes of knee pain like tuberculosis, ask for Hb%, WBC, ESR, RA test, X-ray Knee - AP & Lateral, and consult an orthopedic surgeon, if no response to routine treatment that is.
2. If the knee is swollen, warm and tender. If there is wasting of the quadriceps muscle, refer to an orthopedic surgeon [since he will be in a better position to advise.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
