Suggest Treatment For Severe Knee Pain

I am a 20 year old female, generally healthy, 5'6, 110 pounds and have had knee pain for as long as I can remember. If I have my knees bent for 5 minutes or longer they begin to hurt so bad. I can't even really describe the pain its just like the pressure builds up and I need to completely straighten them immediately or the pain continues to intensify until it is unbearable. So I try to sit with my legs completely straightened as much as I can. Also the pain seems to be random. They may hurt like this for a week, or month or so, and then I can go a few months with little to no knee pain. But when I am going through a time of pain sometimes it is so bad I have little strength in my knees and just bending them to sit down is very painful so I try not to put too much weight on them and instead use my arms to lower myself onto the couch, etc. When it gets bad I also have a hard time putting on my pants or bending to tie my shoes. Also I have had carpal tunnel syndrome for 1 year now. Throughout the years I have also had hip pain at times but nothing compared to the knee troubles I have had my whole life. Thank you so much for your help.
