Hi thanks for contacting HCM... Any productive cough more than three week should be investigated with chest x ray ..... So first do digital chest x ray for rule out lung infection like bronchitis or pneumonia .... CBC also done to look for total count and neutrophils .... If high antibiotic needs to be started .... It is better to start antibiotic like levofloxacin or cefixime for 7 days ..... Meanwhile take more water and avoid smoking ... Take benadryl like antihistaminic drug for congestion relief .... If needed for cough expectoration take ambroxol like mucolytic drug ... Your auscultation done to look for rales or rhonchi according to which investigate with spirometry if needed ....It will help in assessing severity and accordingly management done ....
