Suggest Treatment For Pressure In Ear With Fluid Drainage

I am a 32 year old women with a perforated eardrum since I was 13 years old I have had surgery to repair it but it tore again. I recently contacted a cold and after 2 weeks of having pressure in my ears I removed what looked like skin from my ear and pus followed. I have had leakage for a week now and my ear canal is swollen and my jaw has begun to hurt. I am currently 11 weeks pregnant an no ENT in my area will see me without my OB s referal. My OB says I need to wait it out and does not recommend any medications during this time. I am in a great deal of pain.

Hi,

Noted your history of having pregnancy, carrying the 11 th week that is first trimester of pregnancy in which period all the medicines should be hold and if it is must then the risk is weighed under the guidance of your Obstetrician.
Hence call your Obstetrician to get any emergency pain medicine that can be given during this period.
Do not blow nose.
Do not instill anything in ear until your Doctor has advised.
I think Paracetamol should be thought about as you are nearing completion of first trimester.
Take rest.
Consult an ENT and Obstetrician at the earliest or rush to ER and tell them about pain and pregnancy to get some help if the pain is severe as severe pain is one of the reasons for abortion.
Try to do hot fomentation of the ear with warmed cotton cloth to get some relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
