What Surgical Procedure Is Followed For Ruputured Tympanic Membrane?
I am 33, have ruputured tympanic membrane, has not completely closed 10% left to heal, have waited 9 months. Surgery tympanoplasty is scheduled 1st wk of August. I was told annulous is fibrous is a difficult area for graft to attach. Any information you can share about positives/negatives for proposed surgery? I have not been able to go near water d/t severe infection that started whole thing. My hearing is better than it was but not the best, about 20-30 hearing loss. I went deaf for about 6 weeks in right ear.

Tympanoplasty is a surgical technique to repair a defect in the tympanic membrane with the placement of a graft, either medial or lateral to the tympanic membrane annulus.
But in case of annulus fibrosis not good to put graft is little difficult. In case of subtotal perforation difficult to graft.
The goal of this surgical procedure is not only to close the perforation but also to improve hearing. So before surgery keep ear infections free by avoiding water entry into it.
