Suggest Treatment For Pain In Ears

Hello, I have a few questions about ear pain when flying and skydiving. Im 18, weigh 260lbs and am 6 0 When i was a infant i had surgery on my ears where they placed tubes in them for drainage or something..Since i can remember, ive always gotten extreme ear pain when flying... I try to pop my ears by holding my nose, but normally only 1 ear pops or non at all, leaving me with Incredible pain when we land (lasting more than a day in most cases)I plan to go skydiving in my future and do not want to continue to go through such pain again....I also like to travel but the pain sets me back every time...What can i do to ensure that i have little or no pain when i fly or skydive? Ive heard of trying nasal sprays, and nasal decongestants, but i want to know if there is anything more that can aid my problem....

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
What you experience is otitis barotrauma, which happens due to atmospheric pressure changes.. as in sky diving. It's usual, if it recovers soon. However prolonged recovery suggest that there's some problem in the nose( a septal deviation etc)
. Because, theres a tube like connection between nose and ear to equalise the atmospheric pressure with the middle ear pressure. Its called as eustachian tube. Taking decongestant definitely helps, but check if you have anatomical abnormalities inside nose. All the best
