Suggest Treatment For Nausea After Head Injury

My mother got out of the hospital on Saturday. She had sustained a head injury from a fall and had bleeding in her brain. We were told we could give her an over the counter medication for nausea at home. She has had 2 doses of Pepto Bismol and is reporting to feel light headed. She has not eaten much at all because of the nausea. She refuses to be taken to the hospital. She is 79.

Hello. Thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. Head injury can cause light headedness and nausea. As she had sustained bleed in brain, it means she had dangerous head injury. But she is conscious, oriented which is good. She will recover with time.

To fasten relief, you can ask her to follow few tips

: Take bed rest
: Ask her to drink approximately 2 to 2.5 litre of fluids daily to avoid dehydration which can cause dizziness
: Sleep for 8 hours daily
: You can give her Beta-histine or Cinnerizine tablet to relieve dizziness
: Check her BP to rule out hypotension. If BP is less than 90mm Hg, it can cause dizziness
: If nausea does not respond to Pepto Bismol, you can give her Domperidone after proper prescription
: If still no relief, you can consult doctor.

Thanks. Take care.
