hi its been 9 months now and still am suffering from lower back pain. My docotor said its sciatica. Had ones epidural injection after mri scan and my specialist ruled out I have a nerve entrapment .L5/ s1 Have been fallowing exercises as adviced by my physio therapist but till now Pain on my back and left leg is worse when I stand or sit longer than 1ominutes. I try to do lighter work not to stress my back but still the pain is just there and am taking painkillers. I dont feel the pain when I am lying flat on my back. What could be the best exercise so that I will recover and not to go for another epidural.?

Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.Your back pain is most likely sciatica due to nerve compression of entrapment. For this i advise my patients with NSAIDs or opiods for pain relief, muscle relaxants like cyclobenzaprine and neurotropics.I send them along with this for physiotherapy and muscle strengthening exercises.Lummbar supporting belt will be helpful for you also.It may take 1 to 6 months for improvement. Some will get early improvement.Even after this you have severe pain and disability then you can think about surgical options like Laminectomy or microdiscectomy or chemonucleation depending upon which suits you.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further queries.
