Suggest Treatment For Itching And Pain Near To Shoulder

Hi my for year old daughter has a what I thought was a bite. Yesterday whenever I picked her up from my grandmother s house she showed it to me it s on her upper left arm near her shoulder and it looks like a mosquito bite. It was raised, it was about a quarter of an inch in diameter. Today whenever I pick her up from my grandmother s house she was complaining that she was itching all over her body although I did not see any whelps. I didn t see any allergic reactions. It didn t seem like and then whenever she took off her shirt I noticed the same area where I thought she had gotten a mosquito bite actually is now about 3 inches or so in diameter. The area is raised, she says it hurts to the touch although it is still soft, it is not hot and I can see possibly a little rash starting on her tummy where she s been itching. I can t tell if it s from her scratching or if it is just another symptom I have no idea what this could be, she does have allergies sometimes but I just want to know if this is serious enough to go to the EL or if it s okay to let hey go to sleep?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of itching on shoulders, my treatment advice is:

1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like Fusiderm-B cream.
3. Take an antihistamine medicines like Levocetrizine. Consult your physician for prescription.
4. Other treatment options are oral steroid like prednisone or betamethasone to be taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
