Hello Doctor. I am Piya, age 29 year. I am suffering from hypothyroid since 7+ years. As of now my TSH level is under control. I am taking Eltroxin 50mg, I am on controlled diet with regular gym, but I am not loosing weight and also I have seen my weight has increased in six months to 5 kgs. I am really tensed my height is 148 cm and current weight is 53 kg. My target is to become 45 KG. Plz help.
Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
If your TSH levels are normal, the weight gain is not due to hypothyroidism. Increasing the thyroxine dose wont help. The options of decreasing weight include:
1. Lifestyle modifications : Frequent small high fibre diet, regular aerobic exercise x 30 minutes a day
2. Medications : weight loss medications like orlistat, lorcaserin can be used
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
