Suggest Treatment For Fever And Sore Throat

My husband has been sick for 12 days. He started with a fever around 99 - 101 degrees, headache, sore throat extending to the upper chest area without congestion, swollen glands, extreme pain in joints which made it difficult for him to walk, stiff neck, pain in his lower back, nausea and loss of appettite. He did not have any intestinal problems or vomiting. These conditions were severe for about five days, and then continued, but without the same severety. He still has a headache, a fever that comes and goes, lack of appettite, weakness, sore throat, and for the last three days - red eyes which are sensitive to light. He has lost about 14lbs. He went to an urgent care clinic on the second day of illness as he said that he had never felt this badly before. The doctor thought that the headace and sore throat might be caused by a sinus infection and that the other symptoms were from a virus. He prescribed AMOX/K CLAV 875-125 twice daily for 10 days, and TAMIFLU 75mg twice daily for 5 days. He completed taking the medicine two days ago. He is eating little, but staying hydrated. Although he has been making his self walk aroung a little, he is very sleepy today. The weekend before this illness, we were walking a trail and canoeing.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your husband seem to be related to a respiratory tract infection. I see through the query that he has already taken antibiotics to treat the infection. The fatigue is normal after an infection as the body recovers. I suggest to eat healthy, drink liquids and take a multivitamin supplement.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
