Hi,I am Dr. Joan F. Tryzelaar (Cardiac Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My grandfather had an aortic valve replacement surgery about 5 years ago. THis past March, he suffered a great deal of internal blood loss before stabilizing and making a full recovery. In May, he went for an ECHO and we have now received word that one of his valves may be dysfunctioning. What would the next steps be? What could they do for him? He is 79. Is this too old to correct the valve replacement. What are his options? Thank you.
Age is not a criteria for operating .Its the physical condition that determines the decision to operate or not. Also its important to know which valve is problematic and how much.Because mostly medications alone are enough to control valve related problems.
