Suggest Treatment For Cough With Phlegm

Hi, I have had a cough now since Christmas. It sounds like I have been smoking for 50 years and there is some phlegm, yellowish and thick, when I can cough it out. No ill feeling or temperature. Do I need to bother my doctor or will it go away eventually. I did have flu just before Christmas.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Flu (viral upper respiratory tract infection) can cause bronchitis (inflammation of airways). And this bronchitis can cause similar kind of cough and expectoration.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
You may need inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone) for cough.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
