Suggest Treatment For Constipation

I am trying to help my cousin.. her daughter is 7 and has had chronic constipation for some time now.. her doctor just keeps telling my cousin to give her Miralax.. as we speak the poor child is screaming and crying in pain because she can't poop.. my cousin has tried everything we can come up with to help her.. a warm bath and even a glycerin enema.. is there anything we can do that isn't going to take hours to work..

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about a daughter of your cousin and understood the concerns.
Since hte baby is just 7 years old and even glycerine enema and Miralax are not helping her so that she has to scream during passage of motion mean that there is something that is amiss.
I would advise you the following :
Get her to the Pediatric Surgeon for clinical evaluation and examination as there may be a fissure in ano or some condition like this that is causing her so much pain that in itself is causing spasm of the anal sphincters not allowing the passage of the stools and letting her cry in severe pain.
GIve her analgesic.
Continue with Miralax and Glycerine suppositories or enema.
X-ray of the abdomen will help to find out if there are fecoliths that have impacted.
If yes, give her traditional soap-saline enema.
Gie her probiotics.
ANtibiotic cover if there is a fissure in ano with edema or infection around the anal opening.
These should help her to get a relief.
