Hi, I have been having a lot of bowel troubles lately with not being able to go then I can go but I get a lot of pain and my bowels are a different colour each time.. But now I have realised that my belly is really hard when I touch it and I have been having a temp aswell as feeling really sick.. I m in heaps of pain and I dont know what to do.. Any suggestions?
Dear- I understand how bad you feel and will try to give you an advise to feel better. In order to avoid constipation, we need to have a high fiber diet, at least 32 onz of water daily and stool softener to avoid irritation of the colon and bleeding. However, the presence of temperature makes me feel that you might have a concomitant infection, maybe a diverticulitis which gives pain and fever. It is important to go to the emergency room if you persists with fever and pain, because diverticulitis can complicate and create a rupture of the diverticuli and more complications. I suggest to observe your symptoms, try a liquid to bland diet for 24-48hrs and watch for fever and pain. If it doesn't get better, go immediately to the ER. I hope that my advise will be helpful Dr.Sara
