Suggest Treatment For Bowel Incontinence

My elderly 89 year old mother who has dementia, is incontinent and sits in the chair all day, either has very formed stools or a lot of the time they are quite loose. Is there any remedy to keep them formed. Or anything i can buy over the counter to help?

Hi,
She is suffering from dementia and already might be on too many medications. Her bowel habits are variable depending on the diet and the amount of water.
Any drug unless prescribed for a problem could result in other complications.

Get a stool examination and a sigmoidoscopy done to rule out any pathology (like inflammatory bowel disease, malabsorption or tumors). If there is not pathology, anti-motility medications may be tried during periods of diarrhea.
Look for more detailed nutritional workup with fiber rich diet.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
