Suggest Treatment For Amniotic Band Syndrome During Pregnancy
I am a physician but far removed from obstetrics. A family friend has asked my input on behalf of her daughter, 20 years old and 22 weeks gestation, who is recently diagnosed as having amniotic band syndrome with the foot apparently threatened. Abortion has been strongly recommended, but she is unclear on her options. Any recommendations on where she might access another opinion on this situation, in short order? Obviously in two weeks, abortion will no longer be an option.

1 ) First of all do not panic.
2 ) As per the laws of the land where you are staying she can take decision of termination of pregnancy, on baby's development point of view.
3 ) As such, decreased amount if amniotic fluid can lead to amniotic band syndrome. Now, we need to know the reason why the amniotic fluid has decreased. Apart from leaking , does USG suggest of any anomalies in the baby, with attention to fetal kidneys. Also, some chromosomal Abnormalities in the baby need to be looked for.
If any of the tests indicate or diagnose any fetal problems, then decision to terminate the pregnancy should be taken at the earliest.
