Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was helping my dog get over her fear of water and was accidentally scratched on left arm by her hind leg 3 weeks ago and she weighs 75 pounds. My bruising is gone now but still have a small knot and it hurts pretty bad still. What is it and when will it go away or stop hurting?
First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, it can be a local infection and after animal scratches or bites may need amoxicillin coverage for bacterial infections relating to such scratches.
Anti-inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful for symptomatic relief.
But most important is the vaccination status of the dog, as if not vaccinated, you would need anti-rabies vaccination or immunoglobulin after examination by your primary care physician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
