Hi, I am John from Bangalore, India. My contact was 4 weeks ago and I have done the Elisa testing 13 days back. I heard from my friend saying that with in 3 weeks time Elisa testing wont detect HIV and then he suggested me to check with the doctor to know if there are any tests to detect HIV within this period (3 weeks period) in case if I have affected from the last contact (4 weeks ago). Please clarify.
yes simple elisa test can not detect hiv in 20 days. because it detect hiv antibodies and antibody production takes some time what is called window period. after a month p24 antigen is the good choice for detection of hiv infection. go with forth generation elisa or pcr test to detect virus of present.
