Suggest Remedy For The Swollen Ankle Due To Infection

I had two spurs removed from the top and outside of my right ankle. I had two scars, one for each. The top one has heeled very well. The side scar had a small redness at the top end and about two weeks after the op it became infected. The surgeon removed what looked like a stitch from inside the wound. Two weeks later I am on my third course of anti biotics, it is still a bit swollen, hot and red. I have been told to take it easy and keep it up.
What I would like to know is, what esle I can do to fix this. Like anti inflammitories, ice etc. Do you think there might be something still in there, if so how can I find out, or should I just be patient. I have no pain or discomfort from my foot at all. I am 64 and usually heal fast.
Please help.
