Suggest Remedy For The Discomfort In Throat Muscles

Here is my case, im an opera singer, and I have felt since one year back or more, a certain discomfort on the throat muscles, the thing is that I think this happened after I got a really high note down and I am sort of taking, prescribed medication for the muscles (I ran an exam on my vocal chords and they are fine),I have done vocal exercises, acunpulcture, and nothing seems to work. I have been in 2 different doctors, they only give me medicine for bacterial infection, can you tell me other solutions? Thanks for Support

Hi.

Noted the history about an Opera Singer, certain discomfort on throat muscles since 1 year, after high note down, consulted Doctors and got medicines for muscles but no relief, no vocal problems, done vocal exercises, acupuncture.
This looks to be abuse of the muscles that participate in production and modulation of sound.
It is great to know the vocal cords are normal.
Hence I would advise you the following:
First of all it is most important to have ''voice rest.'' This means no speaking, no singing at all.
The basic of any muscular strain is rest and this is possible only by voice rest.
To have proper examination of the muscles and bones, cartilages.
Anti-inflammatory medicines.
Oral steroids if there is no diabetes.
All these measures should help you out for muscle relaxation.
Consult an ENT Surgeon and speech therapist before starting speaking and once the speaking is normal then start singing after go ahead by your Specialist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
