Suggest Remedy For High ALT Level

Hi - I have just had some LFT back and my ALT is 49 - I am a 29 year old male? I need to get this down quickly as these results are pending my acceptance into the RAF - Is the fact I have been taking 3 times my dailty allowance of cod liver oil and vitamin D anything to do with it - and what can I do now please?

Hello

Your findings suggests mildly increased ALT.
ALT is an enzyme that is normally present in liver and heart cells. ALT is released into blood when the liver or heart are damaged.

Liver related increased ALT may be due to many reasons like hepatitis,alcohol intake,altered lipid profile, medicines,auto immune causes etc.

You need few other investigations like viral markers,lipid profile and ultrasound of abdomen.
I suggest my patients to take tablet ursodeoxycholic acid 300 mg twice daily for three months.It helps in regeneration of liver cells.
You should avoid cod liver oil for some time.
