Suggest Medicine Fro Back Pain
My Mother is ninety years old and has hurt her back and is having terrible back pain and is hardly able to walk. She wanted to go to ER thinking the DR. there would help her with pain. Instead he gave her blood pressure lowering medication and no pain tables or injection. He said she was too old and he could not give her any thing for pain! I brought her home & give her tyenol which does little to help. Her internalist office does not open until Monday. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you, S. Havis

Appreciate your concern for your mother.
If the pain occurred after hurting the back, it is a musculoskeletal pain and a pain killer like Cox 2 inhibitor Celecoxib may be used, as Tylenol is not of benefit. Narcotic analgesics and NSAIDs can produce adverse side effects at her age.
A local pain reliever cream would also be helpful. Warmth may be applied making sure that it is not too hot.
Also a referred from the stomach, duodenum, spine or from the heart also should be considered and excluded by appropriate examination and investigations.
