Suggest Medication For ADHD

Hello, I wanted to know if ADHD medication can be prescribed to me. I have taken Sterata maybe 2 years ago, but it gave me really bad flu like symtoms, then my doctor put me on Ritalin, and it didnt suite me, it gave me really cold chills, then I was put on Adderall IR, and XR 30mg, which worked fine for the first 2 months, but then gave me lot of side effects as I was really sleepy.

Treatment of ADHD consist of stimulants and non-stimulants. You must be diagnosed by a physician prior to using any of these medications. You must also be informed by your doctor about the side effects of these medications.

You were treated with Strattera, a non stimulant and also stimulants, Adderall and Ritalin. This disease is well research in the pediatric population but there is limited research in adults. Of the studies that were done, adults found better and sustained improvement of their symptoms on stimulant medications.

Stimulant are either methylphenidate and amphetamines and are either long, intermediate or short acting. The long acting drug last for about 10-12 hours. I'm unsure when you felt sleepy after taking these meds but if it was after 10-12 hours then this normal. Although these drugs have similar side effect profiles the side effects differ from person to person. So people also think the original drug works better than the generics. So I think you talk to your doctor about starting a long acting formulation-Concerta is recommended, original drug if possible and titrate dose to best effect. If this doesn't work then you can try one of the other long acting medications. Also take the medication when you want to maximize 12 hours of the day.

Remember stimulants can be addictive and result in abuse so always follow the guidance of your physician.
