Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I am a pediatrician and will be glad to help. Yes, his rash could be impetigo which is a superficial skin infection. You are correct. In the USA, it is most often due to Staph. Treatment is a topical anti-bacterial ointment such as Mupirocin. Applied three times a day for 5-7 days. You should be able to get this in the pharmacy over-the-counter.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
