Suffering From High Blood Pressure. Taking Antibiotics. How To Control Spikes In BP?

I ve just been told I have high blood pressure and put on medication . I ve been told to monitor several times a day and that slowly the bp should come down. It s does seem to be working however, there are times during the day that it s still high. What can I do at home to help bring it down when it spikes? I m also watching the salt and eating better.

Hi thanks for your question.
The best way to avoid spikes is to decrease your salt intake and sstay cooled.
You have to avoid stress and tension at all cost, that is the only way to avoid spikes in blood pressure.
This will work ggod for primaey hypertension, which doesn't have any established cause and not for secondary hypertension in which there is some underlying etiology ,which one has to correct to avoid spikes in blood pressure.
Hope this answers your question.

Hi
Thanks for the query.
Salt reduction, weight loss, relaxation techniques and cutting back on alcohol and smoking are some of the methods which help in blood pressure reduction.
If you are having episodes of high blood pressure it's best to see your doctor who will advice appropriate medication changes. Never change the dose of medications or take new pills on your own.
HOpe this helps.
Good luck.

Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr. Sheeba Stephen's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

It's good that you are regularly monitoring your BP and are watching your salt intake and diet. It may take some time for the BP mediction to bring about its full effects and you have to be patient till then. Additional measures which can help control the fluctuations are adequate rest, avoiding physical and mental stress and practicing relaxation techniques like deep breathing, etc.

Best wishes,
Dr. Sheeba Stephen
