Suffering From Hiatus Hernia, General Weakness, Nausea And Vomiting. Have Constipation. Ear And Bladder Infection. Suggestions?

female, 83 yrs old, excellent health except hiatal hernia until 8 wks ago.generalized weakness, nausea and some vomiting. Food tastes bad, esp milk. constipated. no response to suppositories, laxatives,etc for 9 days. Diagnosed with ear and bladder infection . no pain. ultrasound showed enlarged brestbone. CT scan shows a possible mass in cecum , but probable retained bowel movement . Continued loss of energy and nausea, odd taste, and no pain. Lymph nodes are marginal. Colonoscopy scheduled in 10 days. What are we missing?

Thanks for writing in.

I suppose you bladder and ear infections are being taken care of. Hiatus hernia symptoms get worse on bending forwards and lying for a long while, theses can acordingly be minimised by following erect posture and taking small regular feeds. The constipation is most important to be evaluated at the moment. CT scan finding of a suspected bowel swelling surely needs colonoscopy and we have to wait for a while. In the mean time you may get complete blood work up done with haemoglobin levels. If the constipation is not getting cleared, enema may be given to relieve it. Please follow instructions on the day of colonoscopy, it requires bowel preparation.
