Suffering From Flu, Having Cough, Fever, Body Pain, Chills, Headache. Taking Advil. Treatment Options?

My husband and I both had the flu- coughing, fever, body aches, chills, etc.this past week. I am ok now, but he has a very bad headache and sharp pains (intermittent) on his sides. (about halfway down each side). Advil cold and sinus helps his head for a bit but it comes back as drugs wear off. He is still coughing (non productive) quite a bit but no fever now. He has had shingles before and says the side pain almost feels like that pain, very sharp but not constant. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear...
All these symptoms suggest that your husband might be suffering from upper respiratory tract infection(most probably viral infection)

The management consists of:
1. Drinking of warm fluids to reduce throat pain
2. Antihistamines to provide symptomatic relief from cold & cough.
3. Anti tussive syrup to take care of the cough.
4. Analgesics to take care of pain & fever.

So...it will be better to consult your GP & start treatment.
Investigation like complete blood count & X ray of paranasal sinus will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Thanks & take care.
