Sore Throat With White Patches. Throat Burns And Painful To Swallow. Have Mitral Valve Prolapse. Cure?

I have severe sore throat, swollen, with white patches for four days now, not resolving.Throat burns and is very painful to swallow, but no fever. Had same symptoms 3months ago. Was given Rocephin, IM, and symptoms resolved. At that time Strep screen was Neg. I have a mitral valve prolapse, and I don't want to wait too long just in case it is a bacterial infection. Could this still be a bacterial infection with no fever?

Hi,

There are chances that it could be bacterial infection even without fever. It can be confirmed by doing a throat swab. Meantime, you can do oral saline gargling. Please visit and let your doctor know that this has recurred just a few months later so that he can avoid resistant antibiotics. Also, please get proper treatment for your mitral valve prolapse as well.

Take care!
