Sore Throat, Burping And Decreased Appetite. On Dexilant. Medical Cure For This?
I've had a sore throat for weeks and have a coating on my tongue. I had it once earlier this year, was treated for thrush unsuccessfully and went to an infectious disease doctor who told me it was bacterial overgrowth. It went away on its own, and now it's back. A very sore throat and white/yellowish fur like coating on my tongue. Lots of burping and decreased appetite. I've been on dexilant 60 mg. for three months. Prior to that 40 to 60 mg of Nexium for three years. Should I be taking an antibiotic for this condition? Is it dangerous to wait and let it heal on its own again?
Hello dear, Nexium & dexilant are antacids which prevent formation of excess acid in stomach & will be helpful in control of burping. Regarding the complaints of coating on tongue & sore throat, you will need to get proper clinical examination by an ENT specialist to rule out any pathological cause. Symptomatic relief can be obtained with: 1. Gargle with warm salt water to relieve throat pain. 2. Analgesics like paracetamol. 3. Antibiotics depending upon culture & sensitivity reports to remove the causative organism. 4. Antihistamine preparations can also be used to provide symptomatic relief.
Meanwhile...avoid taking cold food & drinks, maintain adequate hydration & take soft, non-spicy foods. Wish you good health & a speedy recovery. Take care.
