Small Child, Fluctuating Fever, Sore Throat, Eye Redness. Cure For Symptoms?

Hi. My six year old son has been unwell since yesterday afternoon. He slept ok last night but for much of today his temperature s been fluctuating. So he ll have a fever and then it will go down on its own without medication , and then an hour or more later it will climb back up. He has a sore throat , slightly red eyes, but is not in pain other than with the sore throat. Any ideas what he may have?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi

Fever, sore throat, red eyes- may be a virus.

For fever- give him Acetaminophen in a dose of 15mg /kg/ dose repeated every 6 hrs for 2 to 3 days. When temperature comes down, your son will be comfortable.

Give him some lozenges for sore throat- made of menthol/ honey.
Give him plenty of fluids.
Warm salt water gargling thrice a day will help for his sore throat.

If its viral, he will be okay in 3 to 4 days.
If fever persists after 3 to 4 days, he is lethargic, his oral intake is poor- please do not hesitate to see your Pediatrician.

Wish your son a speedy recovery.
