What Causes Redness In The Eye, Cough And Fever?

My son came down with cold like symptoms on Monday. Temp of 99.9, sore throat slight cough. This morning he woke with very red eyes though no discharge and a deeper cough. No fever. A bit congested. I am worried about conjunctivitis. Could the eye redness be a result of the virus and not Conjunctivitis? He is also a swimmer and had practice this morning. He is 15 years old.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of redness in the eye, cough and fever which is probably due to viral infection which is lowering down your immunity and making you prone for infection. It could be due to granular pharyngitis due to upper respiratory tract infection. I would suggest you to take combination of antiviral drug along with anti-inflammatory drug. Take nimesulide along with paracetamol as well. Your symptoms will resolve in 4-5 days. If symptoms keeps on persisting visit pediatrician once and get some routine blood investigation done. Take diet rich in multivitamins. Drink plenty of water. Take hot milk rich in turmeric as it will boost immunity. Apply wet cold sheets on your head to lower down body temperature. Avoid hot, spicy and sharp food substances. Take diet rich in multivitamins and vitamin C.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
