Should We Start Zenflox For The 8 Month Old With Diarrhea Watery And Bright Stools As Bifilac Didn't Work ?

my daughter is 8 months old, has diarrhea with watery and bright yellow stools, x6-7. Pediatrician started bifilac twice daily 15 mL (gave for a week, not helpful), and told to start Zenflox OZ (if not under control). I hv yet not started the antibiotic, should i start as things are not looking up. Diet is mostly rice, banana, potato, sabutdana.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
I usually not recommend the Ofloxacin for infants and children.
Because of the risk of bone problems and tendon rupture is more with fluroquinolone antibiotics.

In fact it is not recommended for children below 12 years of age because of it potential side effects.

You can continue the bifilac and give her plenty of water and electoral powder dissolved in water.
Usually antibiotics are not needed for mild diarrhea.
Most of the diarrhea in infants and children are due to viral infection and antibiotics would not help.

It is very common to have loose stools in 8 months child especially in the period of weaning.

Thus nothing to be concerned about this.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
