Should I Be Concerned About The Enlarged Ovaries And Peripheral Follicles?
Hi, I just had a sono of my uterus & ovaries. The size of the uterus is normal but my ovaries are enlarged & contain multiple peripheral follicles. Also the endometrial thickness is 20mm. It s two days to my period. No fluid in the pelvic area. Should i take it seriously?
Hello, I have gone through the query and understood the concern. Your sonogram picture is typical of polycystic ovaries. The thick endometrium is due to the unopposed estrogen action. If you have been attaining regular menstruation in this scenario, it is most likely to be anovulatory. Absence of any fluid in the pouch of Douglas suggests absence of ovulation. The condition can be treated through a few courses of hormones to suppress ovulation, if any and thereby the development of multiple follicles simultaneously, Metformin to deal with the associated insulin resistance, weight management, supplementation of other necessary hormones and induction of ovulation when needed. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you good health.
